New Board of Directors for ATINS

The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Nova Scotia elects a new Board of Directors

Halifax, NS – The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Nova Scotia (ATINS) elected a new Board of Directors at its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, May 25.

The Board of Directors for 2013-2014 is composed of Bassima Jurdak-O’Brien (President), Isabelle Pédot (Vice-President), Patrick Yancey (Vice-President Professional Affairs), Sibylle Bechtold (Chair, Admission and Certification Committee), Bernadette Regnier (Secretary/Treasurer), Linda Benoît and Erica Schmidt (Directors).

Micheline Roy, Executive Director, and Yvonne McLaughlin, President, NB Translation, guest speakers at the ATINS AGM, gave a presentation on the future vision of their organization. In September 2012, Translation NB adopted a reorientation strategy to meet the needs of the translation industry, extending its mandate to seek new business opportunities for its members in the four Atlantic provinces with the goal of creating employment in Atlantic Canada for translation professionals.  The new organization is called Alianco.  

The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Nova Scotia is a member of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council, which is a member of the International Federation of Translators. ATINS is also a member of the Metropolitan Halifax Chamber of Commerce.

Mission

The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Nova Scotia attests the competence of its certified members and informs the public of the availability of its members’ services. It provides its members with opportunities for mutual support and professional development. It speaks on their behalf.

The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Nova Scotia confers the titles Certified Translator, Certified Terminologist and Certified Interpreter.
